The Congress of the People has established a Healthcare Monitoring Team which will oversee a Healthcare Watch to monitor the delivery of healthcare services in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Monitoring Team is chaired by medical doctor Dr. Navi Muradali and includes in its mandate the following:-

  • Monitoring the waiting times of ambulance response, emergency room care, elective surgeries, outpatient and health centre care, and diagnostic services such as x-rays, blood tests, and ultrasounds
  • Monitoring the procurement procedures of the Ministry of Health and the Regional Health Authorities (RHA's)
  • Establishment of the recommended Patient's Bureau and Office of a Health Ombudsman
  • Construction of the long-awaited Scarborough, Arima, and Point Fortin Hospitals
  • Monitoring the delivery of specialty care including Organ Transplantation, Cardiac, Renal, HIV, and Oncological services
  • Encouraging the use of Evidence-Based Guidelines for management of common conditions such as Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension
  • Implementation of the promise of free diabetic machines and strips to all diabetic patients as well as provision of quality drugs only and not non-approved generic drugs on CDAP

The Healthcare Monitoring Team includes nurses, doctors, pharmacists, naturopaths, and other healthcare workers committed to monitoring the delivery of healthcare services as well as continuing stakeholder consultations in finding solutions to the poor quality of public healthcare in Trinidad and Tobago.
