Winston Dookeran calls on the Prime Minister to deny Bakr Link
Winston Dookeran, the Political leader of the Congress of the People (COP) is calling once again for Prime Minister Patrick Manning to categorically refute the allegations that he brokered a deal with the head of the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen Yasin Abu Bakr in relation to the 2002 General Elections.
This issue cuts to the heart of democracy in the nation!
In a letter sent to Mr. Manning on May 21st, long before Justice Narine’s ruling sparked this latest wave of discussion on the matter, Mr. Dookeran said: “the only politically responsible course of action open to the Prime Minister is to address the nation on this very grave allegation…”
This remains absolutely and unwaveringly true!
The public’s interest will only be served by a categorical denial by the Prime Minister.
So again, Mr. Dookeran pleads with Mr. Manning, in the interest of democracy and the integrity of the office of the Prime Minister, to break his silence and speak to the nation in a clear, frank, unreserved manner on this issue- you have addressed the nation on lesser matters!
