DOOKERAN IS THE MAN THAT THE YOUTH SUPPORT!!
Political Leader of the Congress of the People, Mr. Winston Dookeran, Members of the Executive, esteemed colleagues, ladies and gentlemen, good evening.
Now that the money done, what about the next generation? What about us? As a young person in today’s society, it is quite easy to feel the sense of hopelessness and despair that seems to be lingering around. Even as we embark on our journey, we struggle in forging an identity for ourselves. Every young person has posed certain questions concerning his identity at some point in time; either to himself or to those entrusted to safeguard his future. They are legitimate questions that require answers, ladies and gentlemen.
It is the failure or inability of those in authority to supply answers that result in this discouraged and callous mood our youth have adopted. I dare say, that when we look to our leaders, the example set, leaves much to be desired. This is why we have turned to the Congress of the People! We believe that the COP has our best interest at heart, and mind you that’s a warm heart, not a cold heart, and not a CALDER HART!
As I commute to and from UWI, I cannot help but feel exposed, vulnerable, helpless and even defenseless at times. As a woman, the feeling of looming danger is ever present, and the thought that my life could be thrust into the hands of criminals at any given point in time is real and scary, to say the least. To add insult to injury, the crime detection rate is ridiculously low; and justice delayed is justice denied! The chances of justice being dispensed are almost non-existent. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the stark reality with which we must come to terms. I ask, what about the next generation? What about us? Contrary to the hopes of those in office, these questions will not simply evaporate into oblivion! They will continue to haunt us for a long while.
Has anyone noticed how our young people have been shoved on the back burner? When was the last time you saw a young person on The Board of Directors of a state entity? Are there any young people in our Cabinet? Are our young people given a chance to serve? If so, how many? And in what capacities? Do our young people really have a voice in this country? Bear in mind, this refers to those under thirty-five years of age, not those who are young at heart. This is why I have faith in the Congress of the People. The youth have confidence in those who demonstrate confidence in them! We place our trust in those whom we believe to be trustworthy! And the only political leader deserving of such trust is Mr. Winston Dookeran! The only political leader who has demonstrated a modicum of respect for the youth of our country is Mr. Winston Dookeran!
