Winston Dookeran calls on the Government to stop procrastinating in the HCU issue Author: Winston Dookeran Date: 2009-11-11 00:00:00 November 11, 2009 Press Release Winston Dookeran calls on the Government to stop procrastinating in the HCU issue The Congress of the People (COP) once again calls on the Government to protect the depositors from losses at the Hindu Credit Union (HCU). To suggest that the management of the credit union was not forth right with the Government is an excuse not to deliver on its responsibility to protect depositors in this financial institution. We reiterate our call for the Hindu Credit Union depositors to be dealt with by appropriate legislation to allow the Deposit Insurance Corporation to cover credit unions and so protect depositors up to $75,000.00 in all credit unions throughout Trinidad and Tobago. Winston Dookeran believes that the Hindu Credit Union matter has been outstanding far too long and that the Government must stop procrastinating in this issue and take immediate steps to support the depositors of the Hindu Credit Union, who through no fault of theirs have to incur losses and for many of them their whole life savings. Mr. Dookeran calls for compassion and urgency of action on the part of the Government. While they dance around the issue, hard working citizens are suffering tremendous pain and frustration.
