Winston Dookeran, in a spirited response to questions about the meeting which he held yesterday with Mrs. Kamla Persad Bissessar - Political Leader of the UNC, said that all it takes to summarise the outcome of the meeting is a simple conclusion - as of today (April 13th 2010) "there is no safe seat for the PNM".
Mr. Dookeran - Political Leader of the Congress of the People (COP) made this prediction after the meeting held at the House of Chan yesterday. The two political parties have a mandate to come to an agreement to install a responsible government, sensitive to the problems of the poor.
The second stage in the careful development of the negotiations is clearly driven by one goal - sustainable unity between the two major opposition parties, which will then be presented to the other smaller parties and NGO's for discussion. .
The positive mood and body language expressed by both leaders, Mr. Winston Dookeran and Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, after their two-hour negotiating session, transmitted a synergy of confidence, a confidence they hope can sweep across the political landscape and result in a regime change that will bring good Governance to T&T.
Both leaders telegraphed that this historic development will be sustainable and will lead to joint campaign platforms, a common manifesto and a one-to-one fight against the collapsed Manning led regime. This in essence is the raison d'etre.
The two parties have appointed separate teams of skilled and experienced negotiators to produce a working document, reflecting the important details which will drive the final agreement. The COP Team comprises three distinguished attorneys - Timothy Hamel-Smith, Clyde Weatherhead and Ganga Singh. The combined unity team has been given a deadline of 48 hours to submit an initial report
