The People's Partnership reiterates the call made at the COP media conference yesterday for international observers from the Organisation of American States and the Commonwealth Secretariat to join Caricom observers for this critical May 24th General Election in light of the clear determination of the Manning regime to hold on to power at all costs.
The Minister of National Security, Martin Joseph's rejection of the order he issued against US citizen and UNC consultant, Mr. Harry Bernard Campbell is a direct response to the exercise of people power.
The hubris and arrogance of the minister yesterday that he was not required to offer a reply to those demanding to know why Mr. Campbell was treated as a common criminal is unacceptable. The agitation of the people and the local and international media in the Bernard Campbell incident has embarrassed our nation. Martin Joseph has been forced to eat his words, but like Peter Taylor, he is taking the fall for a higher authority in his government. Let this be a lesson and reminder to our people of their latent power; their power to change and make policy to govern themselves. Never forget that.
Hence our call for international observers of the general election is made to restore and protect the international image of Trinidad and Tobago. We further join the call of the nation for the resignation of Minister of National Security, Martin Joseph for the shame that he has brought on our country internationally.
