Political Leader of the Congress of the People, Winston Dookeran, speaking on behalf of the People's Partnership, is informing the nation that since he has called a general election, Prime Minister Manning has continued to conduct foreign policyas business as usual. Of particular concern is, Mr. Manning's diplomatic appointments and nominations for important international posts just prior to and since dissolving Parliament.
Informed sources revealed to the People's Partnership that Mr. Manning is hastily making diplomatic appointments, such as Serena Joseph, reported to be the Head of a local intelligence unit in National Security, who has been designated T&T High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
The nomination by Mr. Manning of Luis Alberto Rodriguez to the post of Executive Director of the Inter-American Development Bank is yet another very inappropriate act for a Prime Minister to make after calling a general election observed Mr. Dookeran. Mr. Rodriguez was the National Coordinator of the Fifth Summit of the Americas and the Commonwealth Heads of Government.
The Congress of the People, on behalf of the People's Partnership, calls on Patrick Manning to cease and desist from making any further diplomatic appointments. Mr. Manning and his designees and nominees are put on notice that, just as, according to Mr. Jack Warner, Chairman of the UNC, contracts signed by the government of Patrick Manning since Parliament has been suspended, will be carefully reviewed; so too all treaties, diplomatic appointments and nominations will be reviewed regarding their appropriateness, by the new People's Partnership Government.
