I would like to thank the Hon. Esther Le Gendre, the outgoing member of Parliament for Tunapuna for her service and representation to this constituency, and I wish her well.
Tonight we meet at this great junction called Caura, along a road which goes east and west, and where our people, beginning with our First People, built a civilization .
I welcome Mrs Kamla Persad Bissessar, the political leader of the United National Congress, in the ground breaking role, as the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago
I wish to thank the people of Tunapuna (a place described by our ancestors as "on the river"), for the great privilege and honor they have conferred on me to represent you in the Parliament of this country.
I salute all the activists who have dedicated the past five weeks to achieving this great victory. I would like to single out my co- campaign mangers Mr Joshey Mahabir and Mr. Hamlyn Jailal.
I would like to express my appreciation to the members of the United National Congress, who are the key anchor in the People's Partnership.
To the supporters of the People's National Movement who have overwhelmingly placed their faith and trust in me, I thank them.
It is now 24 years, since I was elected in that great elections of 1986.
Today we have taken that victory, one step further.
This victory has been in the making for some 5 years.
The political transformation that has now found expression in this defining moment in our history, has been a long and hard road.
By your action today, you have significantly advanced the fortunes of this country.
We are here to celebrate a great Victory.
In response to your demand, we have forged on the anvil of hope, a People's Partnership.
This Partnership, is your mandate to us, to bring good government to this country.
You made the call. We responded to it.
The confidence you entrusted in us today, represents the political will of all the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
We are a people drawn from all corners of the world, who by fate or fortune and with God's will have gathered in this great country
This is our home.
This evening we celebrate the fact that you have accepted our case for government, by putting us in government.
We promise you good government.
To all the People of this beloved Country, I express to you, on behalf of the Congress of the People, our heartfelt gratitude .
We are in government because of you.
I thank our dedicated and hard working members of the COP, who have stood by us during our lean years, for their unswerving courage and commitment to the principles of the COP.
To all the members of the People's Partnership, we embrace you, and commit the Congress of the People to the People's Partnership.
To all of our hard working and dedicated public servants, employees in the state enterprises, police officers, and members of the Defense Force, we ask that you work with us to ensure a smooth and seamless transition to office.
Tonight we celebrate the youth of this country. It is you who inspired us to this great victory.
Our Victory is rooted in the new politics.
With new politics we now have the mandate to embrace a new governance structure
There is a time for elections.
There is a time for celebration .
This is a time for government.
This is a government for all the People of this Country .
This is a time, not only for hope,
It is also a time for action.
Victory is not an end in itself,
It is a means to an end.
The work of leadership has now begun.
With leadership comes burdens and responsibilities.
Our responsibility is to ensure that, all the diverse elements in this county have a voice in this government.
Tonight we celebrate our victory.
Tomorrow we commence the process of forging a new beginning.
